Hyundai's highly anticipated Eon is an affordable hatchback with Fluidic design, a spacious interior and decent safety features. Hyundai has conceived, designed and developed the Eon for over four years keeping the specific requirements of Indian customers in mind. The Eon, manufactured at Hyundai's Chennai plant, is available in six trims - Hyundai EON D-Lite, Hyundai EON Dlite (O), Hyundai EON Era, Hyundai EON Magna, Hyundai EON Magna (O) and the top-end model Hyundai EON Sportz.
Eon means a 'long period of time'. According to Hyundai, India will be 'ON' with the advent of this bug-eye hatchback. The Hyundai EON takes on trendy small cars like Maruti Alto and Tata Nano.
Powertrain & Performance
The Eon derives power from a standard 814cc, 3 cylinder petrol engine good for 55.2 bhp@5,500 rpm and 74.5 Nm of maximum torque at 4,000 rpm. This mighty engine is mated to an efficient five speed manual gearbox. The engine is the most efficient in its class and delivers a fuel economy of 21.1 kmpl on highways. The Alternator Management System in the top-end Hyundai Eon trim reduces fuel-consumption considerably.
Build & Styling
The Eon is based on Hyundai's fluidic design meant for smooth and comfortable journey. The five-passenger car's stylish exterior features clear head and tail lamps which provide better illumination at light, an aggressive chrome radiator grille, aerodynamically designed roof antenna, unique triangular fog lamps, sleek wheel covers, integrated spoiler and tinted glass.
The spacious 2-tone beige and brown key colour interior provides comfortable seating for five passengers. The deluxe floor console offers sufficient leg space for front passengers. The semi-cloth premium seat upholstery is large and supportive. The centre console with metallic highlights houses a number of ergonomically placed controls. The futuristically designed instrumental panel has projected chrome dial and graphic bands which display vital information.
The sport 3-spoke steering wheel is accentuated with metallic inserts. A 2 DIN Audio CD player with radio, MP3 player, USB connectivity and AUX-in supports is made to provide complete entertainment. Air conditioner is standard on all models except the base model. The reinforced body structure of the Eon is extremely strong with a square shaped radiator support panel, reinforcement on floor panel and door side impact beams providing utmost protection to passengers during mishaps. The driver's airbag has been installed as a supplementary restraint system.
