Volvo Car Corporation or Volvo Personvagnar AB was founded in 1927 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Volvo is the famous Swedish Luxury automobile maker which is owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. It entered Indian market in 1998 by establishing Volvo India Private Limited (VIPL). It is an arm of Volvo Car Corporation worldwide. Volvo merged with Ford motor company in 1999 before that it was owned by AB Volvo. Volvo produces models ranging from SUVs, wagons, and sedans to compact executive sedans and coupes. It has a manufacturing unit in Hoskete near Bangalore where it assembles heavy commercial trucks. It has its operations across India for trucks, marine, buses, construction equipment, and industrial power systems. VPL started its first dealership in Chandigarh in March 2008 and currently operates its products through its dealerships in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Pune. It has a head office in New Delhi. Volvo Corporation has global sales of around 4,50,000 cars annually; the company has its operations in more than 100 markets around the world. In 2009, Volvo recorded global sales of 3,34,808 cars. Ford Motor (F) expects global demand for automobiles will grow by as much as 10% this year (2010), spurred by economic recovery and steady demand in Asian markets. So being a member of its group Volvo also shares 10% of growth. Volvo Future Plans in India: Volvo plans to launch its two new products globally and as well as in Indian market also in the upcoming years. The first one is ‘Volvo C70 4WD’ which is very elegant by its looks; the sporty car will be truly unique. It will be having capacity of carrying 4 people with superb interior facilities. Volvo C70 is fitted with 12 audio loudspeakers, a 900 digital amplifier and iPod and USB connectivity. You can easily take calls from the Bluetooth with car speakers readily available for call connectivity. Volvo plans to release this car in 2011with higher price tag. The second one is ‘Volvo XC60 2WD’, will have different engine variants, namely the petrol and diesel, though only the diesel pot will be available in India. The XC60 comes with some impressive features like climate control button, LCD that reads out messages regarding vehicle functioning, and many more. The price tag of this car will be Rs.40-50 lakhs. Volvo India also plans to increase the number of dealership in the upcoming years. |
